The state government has decided to take up a massive tree planation programme `Harita Haram' in the next three years to bring entire Telangana, especially Hyderabad city , under green cover. It is estimated the entire Telangana state requires about 210 crore saplings to bring 33% of the area under greenery in the state.
Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao held a review meeting with forest department officials in this regard on Friday .
The chief minister said under the `Harita Haram' programme, a green week would be observed every month by involving people, people's representatives like MLAs, MPs, ministers as well as collectors and Superintendents of Police of the districts. He directed the GHMC to make tree plantation mandatory before giving building permissions. The chief minister has asked the officials to identify land, space availability in villages for nurseries.
