Of Cellular Subscribers....

Norwegian telecom major Telenor's India arm, which operates in six circles, upstaged its much larger rivals by adding 1.3 million customers in May, making it the second-highest grosser of new customers in the month after market leader Bharti Airtel's 1.6 million.
No. 3 mobile phone operator Idea Cellular and UK-based Vodafone added 1.16 million and 0.98 million new users, respectively, GSM industry body Ce lular Operators Association of India (COAI) said.
Total GSM subscriber base stood at 733.09 million in May 2014, a 0.85% increase from the previous month.
Uninor operates in the circles of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, UP (E), UP (W), Maharashtra and Gujarat. Of the total 22 telecom circles in India, UP (East) circle showed the maximum month-on-month growth in terms of net new subscriber additions, followed by Bihar and Gujarat circles.
As of May end, the top three telcos Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular took their respective subscriber bases to over 208 million, 168 million and 137 million.
The May user additions for Telewings Communications, which operates under the brand name of Uninor, were the highest for this year so far, taking its user base to 37.8 million.
In a market where consumers enjoy the world's lowest voice and data tariffs, Uninor became the challenger and introduced ultra-low cost tariff of half-a-paise per second that propelled the industry to take notice.
