Maruti Suzuki, the country’s leader in small cars, is gearing up for yet another shot at the premium segment with the Ciaz sedan, that aims to take on strong going Honda City and Hyundai Verna. Maruti, that has long eyed the premium segment but failed to make any impact beyond its stronghold of small cars, hopes that Ciaz (to be launched early next month) will help it gain sizeable volumes in the premium sedan segment, a category where it made a not-so-successful pitch earlier with SX4, which is being phased out. The company will follow Ciaz with S Cross crossover and a compact SUV. Ciaz will sport a 1,400 cc petrol engine and 1,300 cc diesel engine (made under licence from Fiat), which is used on models like Swift hatchback, Dzire entry sedan and the Ertiga MPV .
Ciaz’s petrol variant has a mileage of 20.7 km litre, while the diesel version offer 26.2 km.
