MIDC to build Balewadi-Hinjewadi Road

People who travel to Hinjewadi for work every day can hope for some respite from the maddening traffic as the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has decided to construct a new road connecting the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park to the Shri Shiv Chhatrapati sports complex in Mhalunge-Balewadi. The 6 km road will run parallel to the Pune-Mumbai highway and will be 13 m wide. The MIDC would widen the ‘kuccha’ road that goes around the Balewadi sports complex towards the Nande village.
The two-lane road will benefit all those who travel to the three phases of the IT Park. The road will have an overbridge over the Mula river. Ajit Relekar, regional officer of MIDC (IT areas), said, “The land acquisition process will start in December and the construction work will follow soon. We are currently working out the terms of negotiation with the farmers who will have to give up their land. It is a linear acquisition and a ‘kaccha’ road will be widened into a ‘pucca’ road. The new road will definitely take load off the highway and the Wakad bridge while benefitting people travelling from Katraj, Kothrud and even Baner and Sus.” Farmers parting with their land will be given the option of one-time compensation or floor space index equivalent to surrendered portion of land.
