AP sets up CRDA

The Andhra Pradesh cabinet approved the creation of the Capital Region Development Authority to supervise the construction of the new capital. The chief minister will be the chairman of the authority and the municipal administration minister the vice chairman. The authority will have 22 members whose names will be announced by the government soon.
The authority will take up two major responsibilities. One, the construction of the capital city, and two, the development of the entire capital region covering about 180 kilometers. The CRDA will replace the Vijayawada Guntur Tenali Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority . The cabinet chaired by chief minister Chandrababu Naidu also decided to construct a 180-km long outer ring road (ORR) covering the entire capital region. However, on the issue of the CRDA, the cabinet could not decide whether to issue an ordinance or go for a bill to ensure legality to the ongoing land pooling process.
