Jaipur BRTS snippets

The Jaipur development commissioner and other officials of JDA’s engineering department took a test ride on a low-floor bus for the Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) and evaluated its advantages. The officials said it was a usual exercise and buses will be hired through tender process. It will be floated for hiring the buses for BRTS within the next few days. Nearly 100 buses will be rented by the department for the ambitious project. The civil work for the first phase of the project is expected to complete by October 15. “The bus designed by Tata was tested of its suitability in accordance to the project need. We had earlier witness the demonstration of Ashok Leyland vehicles, on the basis of these experiences, the engineering department will establish the specifications for the BRTS bus tender,” said JDC Ashok Jain. Though the JDA is expected to be placing the order for buses soon, it is unlikely that the buses would be made available before December. “The buses would be made on order and hence it will take some time before the company delivers them,’’ said an official. BRTS is one of the major projects undertaken by the JDA. The work on the first phase (Package-1B) that runs from C-zone Bypass to Panipech is on. This Rs 54-crore, 7.1-km project was scheduled to become operational by July this year but the deadline was later extended to October 15. This 7.1-km stretch will have 24 bus shelters. The experts feel that making the cycle track (1.5 to 2.5 m), for the other motorised vehicles, footpath, landscaping and the provision for service roads might lead to some delay.
