Navi Mumbai International Airport update

The Maharashtra state government has made a last-ditch attempt to salvage the proposal for the international airport in Navi Mumbai by urging the Union environment ministry to amend the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Act.Earlier, the central department had amended the Act to allow the construction of an airport in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The state made a formal appeal to the central environment secretary Vijay Sharma, who was in the city to oversee some projects executed by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco). The request was made after the Centre recently decided to replace the CRZ Act with a new Coastal Zone Management Authority (CZMA) Bill. The Cidco officials want their project to at least take off before the CRZ Act is scrapped and the new Bill is implemented.Deepak Kapoor, joint MD of Cidco said “We have received 16 different inception reports on the airport project, broadly on traffic flow, commercial viability and technical requirements. Soon, the global bid to invite developers for the airport will be floated.’’ The agency has already appointed Louis Berger as the consultants for the Navi Mumbai airport.Cidco has also asked the Centre to categorise the environmental hurdles and their redressal at one go, so that the hearing process can be done away with at the earliest. According to Kapoor, Cidco has already earmarked 150 hectares of land on which they plan to replant mangroves. The state revenue department recently transferred a major portion of the land acquired in Panvel to Cidco for the airport and the agency wants the project to be visible by 2012. Cidco has also received the goahead from the Centre to build the airport, which is estimated to handle up to 40 million passengers instead of the earlier pegged figure of 20 million. The ministry had also directed Cidco to extend the airport area by another 300 hectares to accommodate the huge fleet of aircraft. Decks being cleared Report for the widening of rivers Ulve and Ghadi close to the site is expected soon Tata Power and state power ministry gear up to shift huge overhead cables and towers from the area Four to five hillocks inside the airport area will be flattened Mangroves will be transplanted to 150 hectares of land identified close to the project area Dispute between Navi Mumbai SEZ and Cidco over 100 hectare land in Ulve to be sorted out soon. Both are claiming the land for their own projects .
US agency Louis Berger to prepare detailed project report and masterplan besides bid documents to select strategic partner - 9 months .
Invitation and finalisation of strategic partner for construction - 4 months.
Actual implementation to start - November 2009 .
First phase of the airport, with a capacity of 10 million passengers, to be made functional - 2012 .
Second phase with 20 million passengers - 2020 .
Third phase with 30 million passengers - 2025.
Fourth phase with 40 million passengers - 2030 .

Sandeep Naik promises safety, security, peace and harmony to Airoli
In the past, citizens of Airoli have often voiced this fear. Hearing these residents of Airoli, it’s not difficult to assess what residents of Airoli expect from their candidate in these elections and perhaps that’s why Sandeep Naik promises safety, security, peace and harmony to Airoli since the official contest began post the nomination filing ceremony as well. Besides his promise of making Airoli terror-free, Sandeep Naik’s fiery speech during R R Patil’s visit also touched upon the achievements of the ruling NCP in NMMC – from Morbe Dam, to providing municipal services and amenities to slums, villages and city settlements, school vision and making 100 beds hospital in Nerul and Airoli. On a secular note, he spoke of how his father Ganesh Naik has always taught them to practice the religion of humanity.

Ganesh Naik philosophy of life
Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik strongly believes that the human life is a boon to share one's blessings with others, while serving less privileged human beings. It is this humane principle that made him a pioneer of delivering to the people of Navi Mumbai. Ganesh Naik is a visionary – a man who dares to dream of making the impossible, possible. The road for him has not been easy. Tormented by controversies, plagued by corruption among his followers; dogged by worries about delivering Ganesh Naik has become a wiser man. In the process he has undeniably made mistakes, based on a stubborn belief in himself. Yet his stature and integrity remain such that these failings tend to enhance rather than diminish his humanity. Ganesh Naik’s life is the extraordinary story of an epic of struggle, setback, renewed hope, and ultimate triumph, which even today remains virtually unknown to most of the world. To people around Navi Mumbai Ganesh Naik is a source of courage, determination and inspiration. To people around Navi Mumbai, Ganesh Naik stands for the triumph of dignity, triumph of self-discipline, triumph of love.

Ganesh Naik thank all those people who supported me from the beginning of my campaign.
“ On Thursday(22-10-09), I was a bit tensed when came to know that Chauguley was leading in the initial stages. However, I was confident about winning the polls. Now, my duty will be to identify the needs of the public and work accordingly. I will try my level best to fulfil our agenda," said an excited Sandeep. When asked whether he is happy with the margin with which he won, he answered, "I am happy with the margin since there was no MNS candidate and still we won with good margin. This indicates that youths and new voters registered with EC put faith in me. My victory is equally due to all NCP corporators and workers who put lots of efforts to the win from the constituency."

Sandeep Naik approved provisions for the civic work
His maturity in the way he conducts the standing committee meetings belies his young age. He comes prepared with complete homework, and agenda for the meeting, initiating healthy debate , showing respect for the opposition , admonishing official when wrong and complementing them for good performance, getting the municipal chief meet members demands wherever justified and finely summing up each subject, weighting the pros and cons even while acknowledging problem areas and suggesting solutions or issuing order to the administration . This confidence comes from his ‘chairman at your doorstep,’ tours to every nook and corner of all wards in the city. He is firmly rooted to the ground to every common citizen as his vision for the city in very futuristic.
The budgetary allocations of the corporation under his chairmanship are a standing example of shri sandeep Naik’s visionary leadership. He approved provisions for the civic work inside condominiums, development and beautification of gardens, parks and ponds, corridor improvement plane for palm Beach road , implementation of e-governance and integrated solid waste management project.

The magic of the secular leader of the masses continues – Ganesh Naik
For a leader who proved his magic for nearly four decades, assembly elections 2009 seemed to be the biggest battle for Ganesh Naik. His opponents tried everything possible to defeat Ganesh Naik in the assembly elections but the results have shown that the magic of the secular leader of the masses continues – Ganesh Naik has proven again that he is the undisputed badshah of Navi Mumbai politics.
In the assembly elections 2009, wherever one visited either Belapur or Airoli constituencies, you were sure to have complicated “who will undercut who” calculations flung at you. In the last three months of election campaigning the BJP-Shiv Sena continuously talked about the change mantra that was all set to conquer Navi Mumbai while the united strength of Congress rebels were over confident of toppling the dynastic rule of the Naik family. These cards could have worked in some other constituency, not in Navi Mumbai.

Navi Mumbai civic body will be to provide 24x7 water to the city as early as possible
Another key priority for the civic body will be to provide 24x7 water to the city as early as possible. "Morbe Dam, which is the main source of water for Navi Mumbai has a capacity of 450mld, but currently we are taking only 320mld. Our efforts will be to supply entire 450mld to the people of Navi Mumbai. As of now, NMMC is already giving 24 hours water supply in some parts of city, but we will try to cover the remaining areas by the end of the next quarter," added Sandeep Naik.
The civic body's list of works is clearly defined for the next quarter. "From improving the corporation's co-ordination with other state government companies like MTNL and CIDCO, to simultaneously working on the corporation's inter-department co-ordination, it is all going to be part of the new initiative, spearheaded by the standing committee, and executed by the civic administration.

Ganesh Naik has put 40 years of his life for the wellbeing of Navi Mumbai.
Ganesh Naik’s two sons are also working for the development of the satellite city 24X7. During campaigning, the NCP was accused of indulging into dynastic politics as Sanjeev is already representing Thane Lok Sabha seat and Ganesh Naik and Sandeep were contesting from Belapur and Airoli respectively. But the charges levelled by our opponents did not fruition as seen from the two wins," said Deputy Mayor and NCP leader Shashikant Birajdar.
He further said, "The victories by Naiks was, in fact, of all those who believe in secular ideology since people speaking different languages and hailing from all the castes and religions elected him as their leader once again. Naiks are idols for all party activists working at the grassroots level."

Sandeep Naik also approved the Rs. 52. Crores children’s park in Nerul
He insisted that the official reach out the citizen instead of the citizen coming to the corporation office with their work culture. He gave relief to thousand of residents by approving the historical decision of undertaking repair work inside condominiums. He also approved the Rs. 52. Crores children’s park in Nerul. Several such constructive and significant decisions were taken under his chairman ship of the standing committee.
