As CBI sleuths raided the homes of former Union minister Dayanidhi Maran and Sun Network managing director Kalanithi Maran and six other places, including the Sun TV’s office in Chennai, the once influential Maran brothers appeared deserted by the DMK and the Karunanidhi family. The raids started at 7 am on Monday after the CBI registered an FIR against Dayanidhi and Kalanithi Maran in the Aircel-Maxis deal a day before. While relations between Karunanidhi’s elder son M K Alagiri and Maran seem strained, the DMK chief ’s younger son M K Tamilarasu was the only person who went to Maran’s house on Monday while raids were on. Karunanidhi’s elder daughter Selvi, wife of Selvam who is the brother of late Murasoli Maran, broke down while talking to her father over phone. Party functionaries kept away from the place.
