Aundh - Ravet BRTS update

Work on the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) corridor on Aundh-Ravet Road is expected to gain momentum now that the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has acquired land from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to complete it.
The civic body has paid the public sector undertaking around Rs 3.87 crore for the land, standing committee chairman Jagdish Shetty said recently. A proposal from the town-planning department was approved by the standing committee on Tuesday.
The 14.4 km Aundh-Ravet route from Rajiv Gandhi bridge across Mula river to Ravet falls in the civic limits. The civic body is widening the road to 45 m to make six lanes. Two central lanes will be used for the BRTS corridor.
The civic body has already acquired defence land for the road. It needed about 3,897.52 sq.m of land belonging to BEL in Pimpale Nilakh. Last month, BEL had informed the civic body about its willingness to sell the land at the rate of Rs 11,500 per sq m.
The town planning department has paid Rs 3.87 crore to BEL and incurred an expenditure of Rs 19.66 lakh for stamp duty and registration charges. City engineer MT Kamble said the road widening is expected to be over before December.
