Petrol price pared

State-run fuel retailers have decided to pare petrol price by Rs 2 a litre, excluding state tax, from Saturday to pass on the benefit of easing international prices to consumers. However, there was no increase in diesel price to save the Centre any embarrassment in Parliament.
This is the sharpest cut in petrol price in recent times. The actual benefit to consumers will be higher on account of state tax. In Mumbai, petrol will now cost Rs 75.14 a litre, down from Rs 77.66.
The country’s biggest fuel retailer, IndianOil Corporation, announced the reduction on Friday evening. Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum are expected to follow suit.
