Pune - Nashik Rail route cleared

Union railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal cleared two new rail routes — Pune-Nashik and Manmad-Indore — during a debate on the rail budget in Parliament.
The announcement for the new line survey between Pune and Nashik was made by former union railway minister Mamata Banerjee in 2009. In her budget for the year 2010-11, the minister had announced that the new line (along with 190 other rail links) will be taken up in the 12th plan.
The state government has already agreed to share 50 % of the cost of the new line project. The proposal to construct the 265-km new line connecting Pune and Nashik had been sent by the railway board to the planning commission.
