Mercedes Benz launched its ‘A Class’ luxury hatchback in India adding the compact car segment to the country’s competitive luxury car market. Priced between Rs.21.93 lakh and Rs.22.73 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai), the A Class targets the affluent youth. “The A class embodies the changing preference of the youth in today's social milieu who increasingly prefer compact luxury, be it the compact cell phones, laptops,” Eberhard Kern, CEO and managing director of Mercedes-Benz India, said at the launch. The Stuttgart-based car maker, which had opened the booking for A Class on May 10, said it already has got several hundred bookings in India. Globally, it has got over 90,000 bookings within a month of launch. Mercedes Benz sees a potential of selling 100-150 units of A Class in a month. The car will be initially imported as completely built unit before the company starts the assembly next year.
