The UP government has granted district status to Amethi, three months after the Allahabad high court had asked it to issue a fresh notification to this effect.
The notification, which was issued by circulation late on Thursday, has brought four assembly constituencies — Tiloi, Gauriganj, Amethi and Musafirkhana — under the umbrella of Amethi. Salon assembly constituency, which existed in CSM Nagar during the Mayawati government, has been merged with Rae Bareli.
This is the first time that the Samajwadi Party has agreed to make Amethi a separate district.
