Arunachal Pradesh was put on the railway map of India with the first train arriving at Naharlagun near Itanagar on Monday with about 400 passengers. The train, with 10 passenger compartments and two goods compartments, is run by a diesel engine.
It left Dekargaon in Assam at 7am and arrived here at 12.30pm, covering a distance of 181 km. “It is a great day for Arunachal Pradesh,” said CD Sharma, who bought the first ticket to Naharlagun at Dekargaon railway station for Rs 35. CM Nabam Tuki, during an election rally here on Sunday, said Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express would be introduced soon to link Arunachal to New Delhi.
