After introducing various welfare measures under the Amma brand name, the Tamil Nadu government announced its decision to sell `Amma seeds'. The seeds will be available in the proposed Amma service centres across the state. In a bid to encourage farmers to use high quality seeds, the government will set up Amma Seed Agency by coordinating with government seed farms, seed production units and farmers, chief minister J Jayalalithaa said in the assembly . “The agency will be set up with adequate staff at a cost of Rs.156.74 crore. Quality seeds produced here will be supplied as Amma seeds through Amma outlets at a reasonable price,“ she said.
