Parliament has passed two key legislations to put in place a new mechanism to appoint judges of the Supreme Court and high courts, scrapping the collegium system of appointment which had come under attack in recent times.
The RS on Thursday cleared the Constitution (121st Amendment) Bill. The upper House also approved the National Judicial Appointments Commission Bill, 2014. The bills were cleared on Wednesday after the government accepted the Congress' proposal to drop two amendments.
