e-Visas for Chinese tourists

In keeping with an announcement made by PM Narendra Modi during a recent visit to China, the MHA will roll out the e-tourist visa facility for Chinese nationals on Thursday. The passport-holders of Hong Kong and Macau will also be eligible for e-tourist visa.
“The government has finalized arrangements to extend and implement the etourist visa facility for the passport-holders of People's Republic of China, Hong Kong Administrative region and Macau Special Administrative Region with effect from July 30, 2015...the total number of countries/territories covered under the e-tourist visa scheme will go up from 74 to 77..,“ a ministry release said on Wednesday . Modi had in May announced extension of e-tourist visa facility to Chinese citizens despite reservations of the intelligence agencies, which had warned that some of them could take up espionage activities in India in the garb of tourists. The objections were overruled by Modi as he was keen to strengthen `people to-people' contact between the two nations.
The e-tourist visa scheme  was launched by the government on November 27 last year. Citizens of eligible countries can apply for e tourist visa online, receive an authorisation by e-mail, and arrive with this printed authorization at nine designated airports -Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Cochin, Goa, Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram.
