Planet Retail to bring in OshKosh and Carter's

Two over-a-century old American iconic childwear brands, Carter’s and OshKosh B’Gosh, are entering India in licensing partnership with Planet Retail, which is already the Indian franchisees of brands such as Body Shop, Debenhams, Next and Guess. Carter’s and OshKosh B’Gosh will be initially sold through shop-inshop format in department store Debenhams, which is scheduled to open its second store in Mumbai next month. The two kidswear brands will later have their exclusive stores. India, with an estimated kidswear market of Rs 28,800 crore and growing at 18% annually, represents a great opportunity for the American kidswear company, which has of late reported losses. With US witnessing a retail slump as the country teeters on the brink of recession, it only makes sense for the iconic apparel retailer to explore India market. As of March this year, Carter’s had 229 stores and OshKosh 163 stores.OshKosh B’Gosh retails a range of pants, shorts, shirts and swimwear for the 0-14 age group while Carter’s is largely for infants (0-2 years of age).
