Delhi Metro Phase III trial runs

Delhi Metro began trial runs for Phase III between Central Secretariat and Mandi House on Monday. The first train was flagged off from Central Secretariat Metro station by union urban development secretary Sudhir Krishna and DMRC chairman Mangu Singh.
According to officials, trial runs on this section are expected to continue for a couple of months. “Work for this 3-km underground section which is part of the Central Secretariat-Kashmere Gate line is almost done and it’s expected to open by March 2014. The opening of this stretch has been brought forward by about six months and it will help decongest the Rajiv Chowk Metro station as commuters of the Badarpur-Central Secretariat Line bound for Noida and Vaishali will now need to change trains once at Mandi House instead of twice ,” said an official.
Areas to be benefited include Central Secretariat, Janpath, parts of CP, Mandi House, NSD, high court, Bengali Market and Barakhamba Road and Metro expects 70,000 additional footfall.
