The Adarsh Scam update

Even as Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and state Congress chief Manikrao Thakare met the Congress high command in Delhi to discuss the fallout of its rejection of the Adarsh Commission Report, Union Minister of State for Shipping Milind Deora tweeted last night: “If the Adarsh Committee Report raises questions, we should investigate (agnostic of party or bureaucracy), answer them & not be hush!”
The controversial Adarsh Co-operative Housing Society is in Cuffe Parade in Deora’s South Mumbai constituency. He said, “Every party is involved in the Adarsh scam in some way. This issue must be discussed threadbare in the public domain. I am not saying a particular person is to be blamed. But the opposition has no right to politicise the issue as their own people are involved.”
On Sunday, the NDA’s prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, had criticised Rahul Gandhi without naming him, saying that while Congress leaders were talking about fighting corruption, its own government in Maharashtra had junked the Adarsh report that indicted its ministers.
Many Congress feel that Deora’s tweet will prompt the party to change its stand. In September, Deora had gone against the Congress stand on the Supreme Court verdict on convicted lawmakers, saying that protecting convicted MPs and MLAs would cause the public to lose faith.
“Legalities aside, allowing convicted MPs/ MLAs to retain seats in the midst of an appeal can endanger already eroding public faith in democracy,” had Deora tweeted. Following this, Rahul Gandhi raised his voice against the ordinace, prompting the government to junked it.
Meanwhile, Vinod Tawde, leader of opposition in the legislative council, sent a letter to Governor K Sankaranarayanan yesterday, asking him to reconsider his decision not to prosecute former chief minister Ashok Chavan, whom the CBI had been named as an accused in the case.
RTI activist Anil Galgali alleged that the MMRDA (headed by the chief minister) had recovered Rs 8.12 crore from Adarsh society under various heads, proving that Chavan and all subsequent chief ministers knew about the scam.
