Shivaji Memorial snippets

After inviting architects from across the globe to build a memorial of Shivaji Maharaj in the Arabian sea, the Maharashtra state government has asked JJ School of Architecture to help with an artist’s impression of how the memorial should be at sea.
A team led by the principal of JJ School of Architecture is in New York to study the Statue of Liberty so as to incorporate features of the memorial for Shivaji’s statue here.
“The state had invited architects from across the world but the state wanted to give the architects an idea of what kind of memorial the state would like to build for Shivaji Maharaj, as they would not be too acquainted with our local ethos,” said a state official. “So, the state decided to rope in JJ School. Once the artist’s impression is made, the architects can give their suggestions and come up with proposals of their own.”
Besides, studies are also being conducted for environment impact.
The state has zeroed in on a 16-acre islet about 1.5 km away from Raj Bhavan.
The Shivaji memorial will house a museum showcasing the Maratha warrior’s life. The state wants the memorial to be a tourist attraction and to inspire the new generation to know about Shivaji. It also wants the memorial to be of international standard.
