India has recalled its troops sent to Thailand for a joint combat exercise after a military coup there, even as it called for an early restoration of democracy in the Southeast Asian country . “Our troops, currently in Thailand for Maitree exercise, have been advised to return to India,“ said the external affairs ministry (MEA) spokesperson on Friday . This came after the ministry of defence asked the MEA to take “an urgent call“ on whether the Indian contingent of 45 soldiers, which had landed in Bangkok in the early hours of Wednesday,, should be directed to return home after the military takeover in Thailand.
