NaMu Airport update

After much persuasion, Vahal village has finally agreed to let 1,500 families from four other villages, whose land has been acquired for the new airport in Navi Mumbai, paving the way for the project.
Describing it as a “major breakthrough“, Cidco joint MD V Radha confirmed that the two-month deadlock was finally resolved after the agency MD Sanjay Bhatia held talks with residents on Friday .
She said that Vahal village had agreed to accommodate the residents of Targhar, Ganeshpuri, Kombadbhuje and Waghivali in their locality . Acquired for the new airport, the four villages will fall in the core area where the runway will be developed. Radha said 60% of the measurement of land for relief and rehabilitation work of the villages had been completed.
But over two months, Vahal residents had opposed the rehabilitation of the other villagers in their areas. “Several meetings and plans to turn Vahal into a model village with schools, roads, playgrounds and crematoria have helped in removing the roadblock,“ said Radha, praising the efforts of local MLAs Prashant Thakur (Congress) and Vivek Patil (PWP).
