MMRDA's Budget snippets

Infrastructure projects in and around Mumbai got a boost as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) approved a budget of Rs.3,832 crore, including substantial allocations for Metro projects, an elevated road at Chembur and several railway works, for the next financial year.
The budget was approved on Thursday at an MMRDA meeting chaired by chief minster Devendra Fadnavis.
Despite stiff opposition by its ally Shiv Sena and environmentalists, the government has sanctioned Rs.190 crore for Metro III. “The Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro III corridor is crucial. It will provide noticeable relief to suburban commuters and so we have marked a sizeable provision for the corridor,“ said Fadnavis.
MMRDA has earmarked Rs.402.6 crore for the second phase of the Monorail project from Wadala to Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk (Jacob Circle). Work is expected to be completed next year.
At the meeting, an elevated road project to decongest the Chedda Nagar junction was approved. MMRDA also sanctioned Rs.161.5 crore for the Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project (MUIP), which includes the Kherwadi flyover, whose northern arm is likely to be completed by April, and the BKC connector.
For railway projects under Mumbai Urban Transport Project (II), MMRDA, has allocated Rs.1,005 crore. For the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, an allocation of Rs.758.5 crore was made under the Extended MUIP, including widening and improvement of several highways, flyovers, a bridge over Revas creek and repairs to Neral-Matheran Road and tourist spots in Matheran.
