Snickers to be made in India

Mars Chocolate, the company that owns Snickers and Galaxy, will spend Rs.1,000 crore over the next 5-7 years to manufacture chocolates in India. The two brands are already available in India.
The company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Maharashtra government on Wednesday to set up a plant in Khed, Pune. Construction work has already begun at the plant site.
“We will start with the manufacture of Snickers,” said MV Natarajan, general manager, Mars International India. “Till now, we have been importing our brands into India. Going local will give us the flexibility to build our portfolio here.”
“Among markets including China, India and South East Asia where we want to place our bets, India is right up there in our priorities,” said Ehab AbouOaf, regional president, Mars Chocolate, Asia Pacific.
Mars will import the cocoa for the chocolates, but will access all other ingredients locally.
