Biometric attendance system at the Mantralaya

In the backdrop of increased complaints of proxy attendance by the staff, the Mantralaya administration has decided to introduce Biometric Attendance System (BAS). The scheme has been supported by chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and will be introduced in the next two months.Although the electronic swiping system was introduced a few years ago the system has proved to be insufficient. The administration has received complaints about employees asking their colleagues to swipe them as present. Further the system is not fully fool proof.
Social crusader Anna Hazare, too, has complained to the chief minister. “It is difficult for people, who come from far flung areas, to get their work done in a single visit,” he told the CM in a meeting held on Wednesday. It was after this that the CM directed the IT department to replace the existing electronic system with BAS. Secretary of IT Kshatrapati Shivaji said that they are trying to introduce the system soon and tenders for the same are being invited.“In the current scenario employee ID can be misused, but with the biometric system employees will not be allowed to entry without displaying his/her finger in front of the BAS terminals,” said Shivaji. Departments have also been asked to check the percentage of absenteeism.
