Bangalore's Monorail plans

Nine more corridors extending up to 155 km have been identified for the Monorail project in Bangalore. These are in addition to four corridors extending up to 60 km already approved by the state government. The project would start once the Bangalore Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (BMRDA) gives the green signal. It further said the nine new corridors have been identified according to the Comprehensive Traffic and Transportation Study (CTTS).Among the stretches is the 9.6-km corridor between Kattriguppe and MG Road passing through FM Kariyappa Road and Brigade Road, and between Hebbal Road and Hosur Road along Outer Ring Road. During the recent budget presented in the house, chief minister BS Yeddyurappa said that the government would start work to build a 31-km network of monorail in Bangalore. The CTTS for Bangalore has proposed four lines of light rail or monorail, totalling 60 km, to act as feeder services for the Metro under construction. As far as the 60 km stretch of the first two corridors is concerned, the government said that once the detailed project report by Capita Symonds London comes to them, the project would be undertaken in PPP model.
