Fame Cinemas rebranded Inox

Three years after Inox Leisure acquired the 97-screen chain Fame, it is finally rebranding all the Fame cinemas as Inox screens. “To begin with, the brand change will initially be experienced by guests in Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata, followed by the remaining cities in a phased manner,” said Alok Tandon, CEO, Inox Leisure.
Three years ago, the media industry saw a long and bitter battle for the control of Shravan Shroff founded Fame between the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group’s Reliance Entertainment and Inox, a subsidiary of Gujarat Fluorochemicals. When Inox won the battle, the acquisition made it the leader in the film exhibition space, until PVR acquired the Cinemax chain. Today, PVR is the biggest player in the sector with 351 screens while Inox is second with 284.
Inox had previously absorbed and rebranded 89 cinemas promoted by Calcutta Cine, a joint venture between the Bengal Ambuja Group, its associates, and Consolidated Entertainment (CEPL). This time around, it will launch the rebranded entity with an audio-visual featuring music by Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty.
