Jagan’s condition weakens

The condition of YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy has weakened. “His blood sugar levels are going down and ketone bodies are increasing in the urine due to starvation. Creatinine levels are also on the higher side,” said a duty doctor at the hospital. Reddy is on a fast for the last six days to oppose bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh without ensuring justice to all regions.
Earlier in the day, Reddy was seen by a multi-specialty team of doctors comprising heads of departments of cardiology, general medicine, general surgery and endocrinology. Investigations including electrolyte, blood sugar and kidney function tests were carried out. “He is refusing IV fluids and is taking plain water,” said a resident medical officer at the hospital. Jagan’s mother Vijayamma had demanded that Jagan be shifted to NIMS but no decision was taken on shifting him to NIMS till late evening. Sources said that a team of doctors at the hospital recommended to the state government that Jagan be shifted to NIMS for better care.
Party sources said Jagan and his sister, Sharmila, would undertake a ‘bus yatra’ from September 2 from Tirupati “to coincide with the fourth death anniversary of late Rajasekhara Reddy and tour the 13 districts of Seemandhra to express solidarity with the people and highlighting the party’s stand of demanding status quo if equal justice cannot be meted out to all regions.”

YSR Congress Party chief Jaganmohan Reddy’s fast ended on the seventh day after doctors at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here forcibly administered him IV fluids on Saturday. Jagan had begun the fast on August 25 to protest Andhra Pradesh’s bifurcation “without ensuring justice to all three regions”. NIMS sources said he is likely to be discharged from the hospital in three days.
The decision to administer him IV fluids was taken after a team of doctors informed officials at Chanchalguda jail about his “precarious health condition”. Sources said Jagan was being given necessary nutrients intravenously and it would take about three to four days for his health to stabilize.
