Somewhere in Pune....

A court sentenced Shiv Sena MLA Chandrakant Mokate and his 10 supporters to one month jail for blocking traffic in Pune in 2010.
They were also fined Rs 500 each for holding up traffic, inconveniencing people and showing disregard to prohibitory orders in place then. “It has become an order of the day for political parties to stage rasta roko for one cause or the other… even handful of people sit across the road and obstruct traffic either for a few minutes or for few hours,” said magistrate Amitsingh R Mohane in his order.
“Political parties organize such show and get their quota fulfilled and communicate to their bosses that the programme was successfully organized. They derive sadistic pleasure in publicizing success of their agitation albeit how much suffering they have inflicted on common man cannot be quantified.”
Mohane said there are other democratic ways to raise the demands. “But beholding the people on road could not be solution.”
