Air passenger traffic in the first eleven months of this year jumped by over 4.5% as compared to the corresponding period last year, as per the latest data released by the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Indian domestic airlines carried a total of 55.9 million passengers between January and November 2013 as compared to 53.5 million during the same period last year, which meant a 4.52% rise. A total of 5.2 million passengers travelled by air in November as compared to 5.1 million that travelled in the same month last year, a 2.33% increase.
IndiGo continued to dominate the domestic market. It’s marketshare in November was 28.6%. Jet Airways market share was 24.1%, Air India 19.3%, SpiceJet 19% and GoAir 8.8%.
National carrier Air India had the highest load factor of 75.1% among the domestic airlines in the month of November.
The overall cancellation rate last month was 0.8%.
GoAir had the maximum cancellation rate of 1.7%. SpiceJet had a cancellation rate of 1.4%. Air Costa, the new regional carrier, fared the best with zero cancellations.
IndiGo had the best on-time performance (OTP) at the six metro airports of 86.5% while the Jet Airways group’s OTP was 85.9%. Air India with an OTP of 71.7% was the worst performer. A total of 747 passenger related complaints were received by the airlines last month.
