Krispy Kreme opens first Delhi store

US doughnuts major Krispy Kreme has opened its first retail outlet in the national capital, taking the total number of outlets in the country to nine.
Krispy Kreme entered the India market in January this year and has eight franchised stores in Bangalore.
The 76-year-old multinational will sell its doughnutss in north India through franchisee Bedrock Foods Pvt Ltd."To cater to vegetarian consumers in India, we will be selling eggless doughnuts," Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corp President (International) Jeffrey B. Welch said.
"India presents a great opportunity for brands like ours as the country's consumer growth is expected to rise driven by demographics, urbanisation, higher disposable incomes and aspiring younger generation," he said.
Franchisee parter Bedrock Foods Pvt Ltd Managing Director Manpreet Gulri said: "We target to open seven more retail outlets especially in Delhi and NCR region."
Priced in the range of Rs 50-65 for a pair of doughnuts, the store in south Delhi will sell 16 varieties of it including its signature 'Original Glazed Doughnut', besides beverages such as coffee, tea and iced beverages, he said.
"The new store is a factory style outlet that houses the imported doughnut-making machine with a capacity to roll out 65 dozens of doughnuts per hour," Welch said.
The company will source 60 per cent of the raw material from the domestic market and the rest of the ingredients would be imported from the US, he said.
The store features Krispy Kreme's "Doughnut Theater" viewing area where customers can watch the doughnuts being cooked, filled and topped, he added.
Krispy Kreme has a franchisee partner, Citymax Hotels India Ltd, of the Dubai-based retail giant Landmark Group for selling its doughnuts in southern and western region.
