Somewhere in Rajkot....

In order to save power while providing efficient lighting on the roads, Rajkot Urban Development Authority (RUDA) has decided to install (light emitting diodes) LEDs in 54 villages under its jurisdiction. The installation will be done by recognized agencies. Earlier, RUDA had installed more than 400 LEDs to light up a stretch of about six kilometres on a four lane road connecting the city with Metoda Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) hub on the western outskirts. The project was executed at a cost of Rs. 2.3 crore.
Now, RUDA has come out with a plan to implement a similar project in 54 villages along with Kothariya Road and Ishwariya Road leading to the outskirts of the city. By executing this project, RUDA aims to save on its electricity bill in a big way. In all it will install total 2,000 LEDs at a cost of Rs 7.80 crore.
“Our earlier experience with LEDs on Kalawad Road has been good as LED consumes less power than conventional sodium lights. Also, the intelligence street light controller will save energy as it will function in accordance with sun rise and sun set automatically,’’ said a RUDA official.
RUDA will install 210 LEDs on the three kilometre stretch on Kothariya Road at a cost of Rs 1.36 crore for the benefit of commuters travelling between the city and Kothariya village during night.
