A day after yoga guru Baba Ramdev said that his support to Narendra Modi would be issue-based, BJP’s PM candidate shared the stage with him at a function in Delhi where the top BJP leadership was also present.
Modi promised to review and reform the taxation system in the country, saying the existing structure is a burden on the common man. “There is a need to reform it (the taxation system) and introduce a new system. It is the need of the time,” Modi said at the event organized by Ramdev, who had demanded abolition of all kinds of taxes and pitched for a single‘Banking Transaction Tax’ if the BJP leader becomes PM. Modi’s remarks assume significance as recently BJP has been talking about abolition of taxes in its internal meetings as well.
Earlier in the day, Modi spoke at another function in Raigad, where he spoke glowingly about Shivaji. “The Chhatrapati ruled with a firm hand. He had a vision to set up the Hindavi Swarajya. We need a ruler like him to take the country to greater heights,” he said.
