Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kumar Vishwas had a chaotic start to his campaign in Amethi, which is the constituency of Rahul Gandhi.
Protestors, allegedly from the Congress, showed black flags and pelted stones at Vishwas’s convoy, but the rookie leader said such tactics would not intimidate him.
“If they think that I will leave Amethi by showing me black flags and hurling eggs and stones at my convoy, they are wrong. It’s a fight between the aam aadmi and the Rajkumar.I am not going to leave Amethi,” he said.
Protestors showed black flags to the poet-turned politician and raised slogans against him for his alleged remarks against a religious event, while he was passing through Jagdishpur area along with his supporters.
They also burnt an effigy of the AAP leader and said that a person, who does not respect religious sentiments, would not be accepted in Amethi.
Stones and eggs were also thrown at the two buses, ferrying party supporters to the rally venue.Police had to then resort to a mild lathi charge to control the mob.
Vishwas, when asked about the protests, said these were ‘sponsored’ and he would defeat Rahul Gandhi by a‘huge margin’ in the Lok Sabha polls.
Attacking the Congress vice president for doing little for the people, Vishwas said the ‘Rajkumar’ had just indulged in symbolism by eating in the homes of dalits.
"Rahul has not raised a single question related to the people of Amethi in parliament for the past 10 years,” he said, urging the people to vote for an ‘aam aadmi’ instead of a prince.
“For the past 10 years, you have ensured the victory of a Yuvraj Maharaja and Maharani (Rahul and Sonia Gandhi). Now it is time to elect a servant,” he said.
