Narendra Modi called for a “Congress-mukt Bharat” (Congress-free India) all through his high-pitched election campaign. But that was as the BJP’s candidate for the top job. A day after his government was sworn in, Modi on Tuesday paid tribute to India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 50th death anniversary.
In the midst of his packed schedule meeting SSARC leaders, including Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Modi posted the tribute on twitter. “I pay my tributes to our 1st Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his Punya Tithi,“ said the tweet. Nehru died on May 27, 1964.
