The country's first ad showing a lesbian couple preparing to meet the parents has gone viral. The online video shows two women in a live-in relationship chatting about their day ahead while dressing up, flirting and discussing their love for each other. Titled `The Visit', the ad for a fashion portal's ethnic wear collection has garnered over 2 lakh hits on YouTube since its release 10 days ago.
The high visibility of same-sex couples in society is what makes the Myntra Fashion advertisement showing a lesbian couple timely , says LGBT rights activist Ashok Row Kavi.
Most brands do not target an LGBT audience, says ad man K V Sridhar. “Though niche, this ad is sensitive to progressive values which most of us have. This trend started last year, with Fastrack ads that hinted homosexuality , the Tanishq ad that showed a re-marriage, etc. In India, while living in is still a shock to our society , this ad has gone a step ahead. It is commendable,“ says Sridhar.
