The Maharashtra government will soon lay a new rail way line for the entire Konkan belt from Mumbai to Sawantwadi in Sindhudurg district.
State finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said the state has decided to lay a fresh line along the existing line given the increased traffic on the Konkan Railway route. The decision was taken at a meeting held with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday .
Mungantiwar said the state will focus on laying the railway infrastructure in the state and it was for the Centre and other coastal states to decide if they want to extend it further into their areas.
