E-visas for 36 more countries

The Centre has announced extension of the e-tourist visa facility to 36 more countries, apart from including 7 more Indian airports in the list of designated airports for entry on such visas.The new regime will come into effect from August 15.
Among the 36 countries whose nationals can avail of e-tourist visas are United Kingdom, Malaysia, Spain, Portugal, Seychelles, Argentina, Belgium, Hungary , Poland, Tanzania, the Netherlands, Sweden, Taiwan, Cuba, Columbia, Peru, Mongolia, Ireland, Jamaica, Guatemala, Bolivia, Armenia, Uruguay , Venezuela, Andorra, Aruba, East Timor, Malta, Monaco, Mozambique, Panama, Slovenia, St Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Suriname and Turks & Caicos Island.
The seven new international airports that will accept e-tourist visas are Varanasi, Ahmedabad, Gaya, Jaipur, Lucknow, Amritsar and Trichy.
With the latest extension of the e-tourist visa scheme, the number of beneficiary countries will go up to 113 from the existing 77. Similarly , starting August 15, the facility can be availed of at 16 Indian airports, up from the existing 9 airports.
Since the launch of the e-tourist visa scheme on November 27 last year, over 2 lakh e-tourist visas have been issued.Its extension to an additional 36 countries and 7 airports is expected to give a big boost to the tourism industry.
