GSAT-6 launch on August 27

Isro will launch GSAT-6, a nearly 2,000-kg satellite, on August 27 using the GSLV . The lift off is scheduled for 4.52 pm from the Satish Dawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
In May this year, Isro chairman A S Kiran Kumar was quoted as saying that the GSAT-6 could be used for strategic purposes. Confirming its main role, an Isro official said, “We do not like to use the word `military'. So we say `strategic'.“ The upper stage of the GSLV is powered by an indigenous cryogenic engine. Based on GSLV's performance in the forthcoming mission, Isro will decide whether it is ready for Chandrayaan-2 and Mars-2.
