State-run fuel retailers have reduced the pump prices of petrol and diesel on the back of fall in rates in regional trading hubs. In Mumbai, petrol would become cheaper by Rs.2.46 a litre and cost Rs.69.51, while diesel would cost Rs.51.29 a litre, lower by Rs.3.86. The reductions, second in a month, include local levies and would vary marginally according to prevailing VAT rates.
This is the sharpest-ever cut in diesel price, which had seen a reduction of Rs.3.37 a litre on October19, 2014 as the benefit of falling crude price was passed on to consumers after the Modi government deregulated its pricing.
