SCLR extension planned

In about four years, it would be possible to take the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) through an extension to reach Western Express Highway (WEH) at Vakola from Kurla. The MMRDA has invited tenders or an elevated road extension from the SCLR.
The 3.5 km extension will start at Kapadia Nagar in Kurla and end at Vakola on WEH. It would help ease traffic on CST Road in Kurla as airport-bound traffic will take the elevated road. Several entry-exit ramps will be built along the extension. “The project is estimated o cost Rs 415 crore,“ said a senior MMRDA official.
The MMRDA feels the SCLR is not serving its full potential as Imam Ahmed Raza junction has brought infamy to it. The road has been otherwise praised for its design and quality . The SCLR, which was opened on April 18, handles around 70,000 vehicles a day. The MMRDA will also build an arm towards the MTNL junction on BKC road under the project.
Vehicles coming from SCLR extension from the Vakola-end can take a right turn via this 1.1 km road and reach MTNL junction on BKC Road.
The official said, “The contract for the project will be awarded by June-July , but actual work on the ground will only begin after the monsoon.“
