India sizzles under extreme heat wave conditions

Heatwave continued in several parts of the country, with Punjab city of Bhatinda recording the highest at 48 degrees Celsius. There has been no sign of the heat wave abating in the national capital either where the maximum temperature recorded was at a breath-taking 44.6 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels shifted in between 44 and 15 percent.

Punjab and Haryana continue to face acute heatwave conditions with Bhatinda recording 48 degrees Celsius, which is six degrees above the normal. It was closely followed by Amritsar in Punjab, which recorded 47.5 degrees Celsius, seven degrees above normal. Chandigarh, the capital of both states recorded hottest day of the season at 45 degrees Celsius. Hisar district of Haryana recorded 46.6 degrees Celsius, while in Ambala the temperature was at 45.1 degrees Celsius.

In Rajasthan, light rains were seen in some places, since Saturday, while the state has also seen rising mercury at some places in the state. While Dabok recorded, 2 cm rains, Sriganganagar was the hottest place in the state at 47.1 degrees Celsius. Churu followed closely at 46.7 degrees Celsius, Kota 45.2 degrees Celsius and Bikaner 45 degrees Celsius.

Heatwave also continued in Uttar Pradesh with Banda recorded highest temperature of 48 degrees Celsius. In Jhansi, 46.6 degrees temperature was recorded, while Varanasi saw 46.5 degrees Celsius and Agra 45.7 degrees Celsius.

Extreme heatwave can be seen in Odisha as well, with mercury reaching 40-degree mark in at least 15 places of the state. Maximum temperature was recorded in Angul with 44.7 degrees Celsius. Titlagarh recorded 44.5 degree Celsius.

Bihar has also experienced hot and dry weather with the mercury touching 46.1 degrees Celsius in Gaya.
