MMRDA plans to do a BKC in Wadala

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is planning to develop the area around the iconic tower plot in Wadala on the lines of the Bandra-Kurla Complex. According to MMRDA commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad, Wadala has the potential to be developed into a major business and residential hub. “In the near future, Wadala can boast of Metro as well as Monorail connectivity. It will also enjoy proximity to the Eastern Expressway by next June,’’ Gaikwad said. Wadala recently hit the headlines after the MMRDA auctioned off its plot to Lodha Constructions for Rs 4,053 crore. Officials said that the development of the land will spur interest among leading corporates who wished to set up shop in the area. “This will, in turn, lead to further development of the area,’’ a civic official said. Gaikwad said nearly 22 acres of land around the iconic tower site will be set aside for “a green patch’’. “We will ensure that environmental issues are not ignored in the name of development,’’ he said. The MMRDA is also looking to acquire a large plot in Wadala, which was earlier earmarked for a central government project. Dwelling on transport connectivity, Gaikwad said the Eastern Expressway will be ready by next June. “When the Mumbai trans-harbour link comes up, Wadala will be connected to Sewri as well as the hinterland,’’ he added.
