Somewhere in Pune....

62.5 mm rain lashed the city from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm on Monday and the all-too-familiar tale associated with a heavy downpour played out again. Most roads in the city were waterlogged, drains overflowed, traffic was thrown out of gear and the basements of housing societies were flooded. The fire-brigade was stretched, with its personnel attending to nearly 100 complaints of waterlogging, wall collapses and falling trees. Two school-children nearly drowned in a nullah at Baner while some children had to be rescued from a school at Kondhwa. But would the silver lining to all this be a decent water supply to our taps? Well, sadly, the catchment areas around the six dams supplying water to the city received no rainfall at all!
