Himalayan water debuts @ Starbucks

American cafe chain Starbucks has started serving Himalayan bottled mineral water at its Singapore outlets, marking the Indian brand’s debut overseas. The world’s largest coffee-shop operator will introduce Himalayan in other countries progressively, even as it seeks to build a robust business model in India with Himalayan’s parent, the Tata Group. A recent entrant in India, Starbucks has a little over 20 outlets here against 70 in Singapore. Starbucks, based in Seattle, plans to triple the number of outlets in India in the near future as part of its strategy to grow outside the US and win more coffee drinkers in the world’s largest tea-drinking nation. Himalayan, acquired by the Tata Group six years ago, is sold on a par with other premium water brands like Evian in Singapore. The hawking of Himalayan by Starbucks is part of its broader arrangement with the Tata Group.
