Hyderabad MMTS Phase II snippets

The MMTS phase II development works are expected to begin in a month with Rail Vikas Nigam Limited which was entrusted with the task of developing the phase II network selecting the Balfour Beatty-Kalindee Nirman joint venture through bidding.
The project estimated to cost Rs 819 crore involves development of five MMTS stations. The selected agency will carry out quadrupling the existing line with electrification on Moula Ali-Ghatkesar section (14 km), doubling and electrification on Moula Ali – Sanatnagar (23 km) sections, Bolaroum – Medchal (14 km) and Falaknuma-Umdanagar (14 km) sections. It will also electrify the existing line on Secunderabad-Bolarum section (14km) and lay a new rail line from Tellapur to Ramachandrapuram (4.5 km).
The state government will bear two-thirds of the cost while the Indian Railways will fund the remaining expenses. For the current financial year, the railways and the state government have sanctioned Rs 30 crore each while another Rs 30 crore is expected to be sanctioned by the government at a later date.
RVNL Chief Project Manager (CPM), P Srinivas said that the stipulated time for completion of the project is two-and-a-half years. “Once the formalities of the tender process are complete, the agency would inform us about the date of commencement of the project. We expect works to be grounded in a month’s time and to be completed in 2.5 years,” he said. According to Srinivas, about 85 to 90 percent of the land required for multiplication of railway lines is already available and notices sent to the GHMC for acquiring the rest.
When asked about the proposed Umdanagar to Shamshabad airport rail connectivity, Srinivas said that talks are still on with the state government and GMR. However, the stretch was not included in the tender invitation process and still remains excluded till date.
