Somewhere in Maharashtra....

In a major push to the development of basic power infrastructure in Pune and six other cities, the Maharashtra cabinet gave its nod to a Rs.1,804.32 crore proposal that envisages setting up of new power stations, capacity enhancement of existing power sub-stations and laying of underground power cables, among others.
Apart from Pune, the other cities to benefit from the cabinet’s decision are: Nashik, Ojhar, Sinnar, Kolhapur, Panvel and Navi Mumbai.
A senior official from the office of MSEDCL chief engineer here said, “The funds will enable us to expedite several key works including laying of underground power cables of up to 1,000 km length, setting up of 27 new power substations and 841 new transformers in Pune and neighbouring Pimpri Chinchwad.”
The official said, “Effectively, the completion of these works will ensure power connection on demand for consumers in the city and Pimpri-Chinchwad by the end of the year 2015-16.”
The state government was expecting funds for these seven cities under the central government’s accelerated power development and reform programme (APDRP). However, these cities could not be included under the APDRP as they had losses less than 15% and did not meet the APDRP parameters, an official release stated.
In March, the phase-II of the APDRP was approved, but these seven cities could not be included in the programme, the release stated. As an alternative, the state government had initiated a proposal to fund the basic power infrastructure requirements of these cities and accordingly, the proposal came for consideration before the state cabinet on Wednesday.
