Star India to invest 20,000 crores

Media baron Rupert Murdoch’s Star Network of television channels said that it will invest more than Rs.20,000 crore to expand its sports coverage in India, extending its footprint beyond the most popular cricket. It did not specify the time period over which the investments will be made.
“The investment is being used to fuel expansion of sports coverage in the country as well as in building exciting new leagues including the Indian Super League in football, the Hockey India League and the Indian Badminton League,” the network controlled by News Corp said.
It unveiled a new brand identity for Star Sports across six channels —Star Sports 1-6 — including the ESPN channels it acquired when it bought out the latter’s stake.
