Chennai Metro update

Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) has completed construction on the  Koyambedu-Alandur stretch and the coaches are ready to roll. All that remains is, besides the state government's green signal, for the Centre's commissioner for metro rail safety to carry out an inspection and certify the system's safety , which is but a formality .
CMRL has completed fire and safety checks at all stations and has also completed inspection of elevators and escalators. CMRL has been conducting trial runs on the Koyambedu-Alandur line since February 2014.
But the government is yet to respond to CMRL's repeated requests for a launch date. Representatives of the company and commuters on the stretch who look forward to using metro rail are growing restless at the prospect of a breach in the promised launch date of March 2015.
CMRL has now employed the bulk of its workforce on the second line between Koyambedu and Shenoy Nagar, which is also nearing completion. The Koyambedu-Shenoy Nagar line is set for a July 2015 launch.
